OVERVIEW
Monarch Racing is proud to present this exciting two-year-old colt by four-time Gr.1 winner State of Rest (IRE), out of the winning Deep Field mare Empress Bea. Selected by internationally respected bloodstock agent Paul Moroney, he was secured as Lot 269 at the 2026 Inglis Ready2Race Sale, where he was presented by Hannover Lodge and recorded 10.53 seconds in his Warwick Farm breeze-up.
This colt brings together the international class of a Cox Plate-winning sire with the speed of a dam who won twice over 1200 metres. Empress Bea is also a half-sister to multiple Sydney metropolitan winner Rock Empire, adding proven Australian performance to a maternal family with considerable international depth. On pedigree, he offers an appealing combination of speed and scope for development, presenting an exciting opportunity to join Monarch Racing in ownership of a Paul Moroney-selected colt from State of Rest’s first Australian crop.
SIRE: STATE OF REST (IRE)
A son of Starspangledbanner out of the Quiet American mare Repose, State of Rest was an outstanding international racehorse whose four Gr.1 victories came in four different countries. He defeated Anamoe and Verry Elleegant in the 2021 Cox Plate, with his other elite victories coming in the Saratoga Derby in the United States, Prix Ganay in France and Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot. His successive victories in the Saratoga Derby, Cox Plate and Prix Ganay were achieved on three different continents, demonstrating exceptional adaptability and class. He also showed ability at two, winning over 1200 metres and placing in the Gr.2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster before developing into a world-class middle-distance performer.
Standing in Australia at Newgate, State of Rest has made an encouraging start with his first Northern Hemisphere runners, including Star of State, runner-up in the Gr.2 Lowther Stakes at York. With his first Australian crop now two, this colt offers owners the opportunity to become involved at an exciting early stage of his stud career.
DAM: EMPRESS BEA
A daughter of Deep Field, Empress Bea won twice over 1200 metres and also placed in Sydney metropolitan company. Her sprinting record provides an attractive speed influence to complement State of Rest’s ability to perform at the highest level over middle distances. This colt is her first foal.
Empress Bea is a half-sister to Rock Empire, a five-time winner from 1300 to 1600 metres whose record includes multiple Sydney metropolitan victories. Through her dam King’s Ballet, she also brings the influence of Danehill Dancer and Unbridled’s Song into the pedigree. Her appeal lies in combining her own sprinting ability with a successful immediate family and deeper international black-type connections.
SECOND DAM: KING’S BALLET
By Danehill Dancer, King’s Ballet was a winner over 1350 metres and has produced two winners from her two runners recorded in the supplied pedigree. Her son Rock Empire has won five races from 1300 to 1600 metres, including the ATC Thank You Trainers Handicap, TAB Handicap, Shinzo Handicap and Pinatubo Handicap.
Alongside Empress Bea’s two sprint victories, Rock Empire’s record gives this branch of the family a sound foundation of Australian sprinting and miling performance. King’s Ballet is out of the American-bred mare Pectoralis Major, connecting these local results with an established international family featuring stakes performers across several generations.
THIRD DAM: PECTORALIS MAJOR
A daughter of Unbridled’s Song, Pectoralis Major won twice in the United States over a mile and an extended mile, earning US$115,641. She has produced six winners from eight runners recorded in the pedigree, including King’s Ballet and the dual winner Inlet.
Pectoralis Major is a half-sister to Settlement, a winning juvenile who finished second in the Gr.1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga, and to Amonistar, the dam of Australian Gr.3 winner Playwright. An eight-time winner, Playwright captured the CS Hayes Stakes and finished third in the Gr.1 Australian Guineas. Further back, the maternal line traces through Prospectora and Oscillate to Gr.1 winner Dance Number. The wider family includes American champion two-year-old Rhythm, Gr.1 winner Frost Giant and Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver. These deeper connections add international distinction to a family that has also established a productive record in Australia.
PEDIGREE ANALYSIS
This colt combines State of Rest’s Starspangledbanner–Quiet American background with the Deep Field–Danehill Dancer influence of Empress Bea. The attraction is the pairing of a sire who won at two before developing into an international Gr.1 performer with a dam whose own success came over sprint distances.
A notable feature is the 4 x 3 duplication of Danehill Dancer, appearing through Choisir on the sire’s side and directly through King’s Ballet on the maternal side. The pedigree also brings together the influence of Northern Meteor, Unbridled’s Song and Mr. Prospector, adding depth to the mating. On pedigree, this colt offers the potential to show early ability while continuing t
